Our kitchen reno has been a stretched out process, and it’s taken longer to do than we hoped for.
It has felt messy and our schedules have naturally been thrown off because of mishaps and slight changes in plans. I heard this quote once and I’m not sure who said it but I love it: “You can tell a lot about a man by the way he responds when he’s interrupted.”
If this doesn’t describe motherhood I don’t know what does! The way I respond to stress and interruption is a direct correlation to the stress level and atmosphere in my home. Raise your hand if you can relate!
Amidst the chaos of our reno I’ve worked really hard to create rhythm, to eat healthy and to maintain the peace in my home. Mamas, it is possible to do during seasons of fullness. You are still the gatekeeper of your home. You set the tone, you can create peace amidst the chaos and mess of your home being a construction site.
Here are three easy ways to maintain the peace when your home is under construction:
- Wake up early to avoid a hectic morning. Get up before the kids and have coffee & breakfast cleaned up before people show up and the work begins.
- Plan and budget to eat differently. Think quick and simple for breakfast, eat in when you can, but plan to order food or go out for lunch and dinner when the budget allows.
- Enjoy it! The process doesn’t actually take forever, and your home is being transformed! It’s new and exciting, acknowledge it’s a journey and enjoy the process. And if you have kids, this is a huge opportunity for you to teach them about hard work, how things in life are paid for, how to roll with the punches and be flexible, and how to dream!
