We celebrated Thanksgiving this year with the newest addition to the Ramsey fam, Monet Ruby Ramsey! She was born a week prior to Thanksgiving, so she joined in all the festivities and fun. She deserves an entire post all about her and the birth, which will come soon, but for now, here’s our family’s Thanksgiving table and celebration.
This year we kept it simple and low-key, especially with a new little one in our home. Alexander’s parents came into town, we had my parents and younger brother over and my great aunt and uncle joined as well! The house was full and our table was bustling and I couldn’t have been happier.
I tend to set the table a week in advance for holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, so with Monet strapped to my chest, she helped me set her first Thanksgiving table a few day prior to the actual day. It’s a tradition I’d like to keep and pass along to my own kids because it makes the home festive and prepares our hearts for what is to come. It reminds me to pray for the day when we all sit around the table and feast, it makes me grateful for every soul joining me and my growing family around our table, and every time I pass our dining room I get to gaze at her beauty.
This year I was intentional with the burnt orange color being a pop of color throughout the table and dining room. As I wrote out my vision for the Thanksgiving table weeks before, my thoughts kept swirling around simple, feminine, lots of white and a dash of burnt orange. I used faux flowers, a table cloth I already had but bought a few more napkins. The candleholders are almost always out on our table but I swapped the beeswax candles for a pretty white. I brought out Alexanders grandmother’s China, printed place cards and a hymn to sing before we sat down to eat. It was a delicate and beautiful setting, especially with all the food everyone pitched in to make!
Weeks before Thanksgiving I started a text thread with my dad and mother-in-law on everything I needed help with, I delegated what I knew I couldn’t do with a newborn in my arms and clung to the few things I could do and truly wanted to do for this holiday. I’m thankful for all the extra hands that made our table and home blessed this year.
And speaking of thankfulness, we love, as do many families, to go around the table and say what we are thankful for. We mostly mentioned the people in our lives, good health and the goodness of God we’ve experienced this year. And with hearts full of gratitude, we feasted and cheersed, told stories and laughed around our table. From our family to yours, we hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
