A Peek Inside Our Hospital Bag

June 7, 2019

We are currently 3 days away from our due date, I can’t believe it! Just like most new parent-to-be’s, we’ve been preparing for our baby to arrive for months now in so many ways! We have decluttered our home and bedroom (yet again) to make more room for our babies bassinet and clothes, a rocking chair and bookshelf. We’ve gotten rid of more dishes to then fill the space with bottles and burp clothes. Our home is more plastic-free, chemical-free and more home-y than it’s been in the last 2 years living here. It feels great!

One of the things I was most excited for was packing a hospital bag. I’m not sure why, but I love to plan ahead and be prepared, and packing is always fun too! Our bag has been packed for a few weeks and I’m excited to share with you what we have in it! I included where we got things from and reasons why we brought certain items! I’d love to hear your thoughts, please feel free to comment below, ask questions or send me an email/DM on IG – I’d love to connect with you!

Our hospital bag is from Austin Fowler – a local company in Minnesota who designs several different bags for all sorts of occasions. Our bag has plenty of pockets and inserts that will be perfect for a diaper bag after we leave the hospital!

We put a few resources in one of the side pockets. These resources include the information we got from the hospital about their birthing center, breastfeeding, and documents we had to fill out to bring back when we deliver. I also read a book on Hypnobirthing (the birth method I’m planning to use) over the past few weeks/months and I’m bringing it with to use as a reference guide when I’m in labor. I have our baby book so we document the first few things once baby arrives – like the weight and their footprints. And I packed another book called Gentle Babies written by Debra Raybern, it’s all about using essential oils during pregnancy, labor and delivery, with infants and young children and as a mom. It’s been amazingly helpful throughout my entire pregnancy! I share below what essential oils I packed as well.

The clothes I packed for myself include: 1 pair of leggings, 2 camis, 1 shirt, 2 sweaters, a few pairs of socks and undies, and 2 maternity/nursing bras. The leggings and one of the nursing bras are from Boob Design, a maternity store that sells ethically made items, I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve purchased from them! The leggings are the Once-on-never-off Leggings (in black) and the bra is the Fast Food Bra (in beige). The other maternity/nursing bra is from Blue Canoe – another ethical maternity store. The bra I got is the Jane’s Bra Top – I got it in black and it’s super comfy, I can’t wait to use it! And the shirt I’m bringing is from Loyale Studio – another ethical company that I love! My husband is obviously bringing clothes too, but he hasn’t quite packed his bag yet 😉 so we’ll see what he brings!

For our baby, we packed two outfits because we don’t know the sex. They are both from second-hand stores, which is where we plan to buy most of our baby clothes! We also packed 2 blankets, both were gifts and one of them was from Kate Quinn Organics – an online shop for organic baby clothes! They are so so cute, I love absolutely everything I see on their website!

Since we’ll be staying overnight in the hospital, we made sure to pack a few toiletries. We packed normal things like toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, along with my favorite face wash and moisturizer from Young Living – I use their Orange Blossom Facial Wash and Orange Blossom Moisturizer! I’m bringing a few other things, such as hair scrunchies and a headband!

Since we are planning to give our baby their first bath at the hospital, we are bringing our own shampoo and body wash. We mostly only use/have Young Living products in our home because they are the safest products I’ve found after loads of research! Young Living has an amazing baby line called Seedlings – they have baby lotion, baby oil, wipes, linen spray and more – all of which are organic, non-toxic and safe for everyone!

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been using essential oils throughout my entire pregnancy. I’ve loved having access to pure, ethical products that help support me and my growing baby! I strictly use only Young Living essential oils for several reasons, but mostly because they are the purest oils I’ve come across! Here’s a list of most of the oils I’ll be bringing along with me and what I’ll use them for:

When we get to the hospital:

  • Diffuse Thieves + Lemon to purify the air
  • Roll Valor on my wrists and neck for alllll the emotional support! I’ll be using this one throughout

During labor:

  • En-R-Gee for…energy. I’ll rub this on the back of my neck
  • Valor for all the emotional support!
  • Peace & Calming, Lavender, Joy – all for emotional support/calming atmosphere
  • A mix of Fennel, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang and Clary Sage – I’ll rub onto my ankles, toes, fingers and lower abdomen and back
  • Drop a few drops of Gentle Baby on my wrists

After Delivery:

  • Frankincense as an anointing oil for both baby and me – I’ll place 1 drop on their head (it’ll be VERY diluted)
  • Roll Gentle Baby on baby’s spine after birth, again very diluted roller bottle
  • Umbilical Cord: I’ll apply 1 VERY diluted drop of Frankincense daily to the umbilical cord stump until it falls off
  • ClaraDerm Spray to use after birth for healing
  • I have several roller bottles to use for creating a peaceful atmosphere, support emotions and for sleep to use the night we stay in the hospital

I think that is it! I’d love to hear your thoughts, feel free to comment below! And tell me if I missed anything 😉
