Autumn Simmer Pot

September 17, 2024

Autumn brings all the best smells — falling leaves, campfires, strolls through an apple orchard, an autumn breeze, and don’t forget clove, ginger, cinnamon and pumpkin while baking seasonal favorites.

Bringing the outdoors into your home is super easy and you don’t even have to bake anything. I’m a huge fan of essential oils making your home smell good, but simmering a few seasonal spices and sliced up fruit, that you most likely have on-hand, adds a dash of coziness.

Not only do simmer pots make your entire home smell delicious and create a calming atmosphere, they also have several health benefits. Cloves are good for inflammation, cinnamon benefits our cognitive and energy functions and our gut health, ginger helps relieve pain, inflammation and nausea, and all of these listed help with our digestion and boost our immunity and offer several other benefits. Simmer pots offer these health benefits simply by breathing in the aroma of spices or, depending on your taste buds (because it’ll be intense), even sipping on the simmered water.

Every year, during these early fall days, when leaves are changing color and there’s a cooler breeze in the air, a simmer pot feels like the best way to welcome the change of seasons.

To make:

Bring a large pot of water (around 4-6 cups) to a steady simmer

Add your favorite spices & autumn scents — a few favorites are: whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, sliced oranges or lemons, grated ginger, star anise, sliced apples and canned pumpkin

Let simmer for as long as you’d like, breathe it in & take a sip
