Tried and True Thieves Cleaning Recipes

October 6, 2022

Can I tell you a secret? I didn’t fall in love with Young Living until I used the Thieves Household Cleaner for the first time. The smell alone hooked me. And then, it worked, which made me never turn back to conventional, off-the-shelf cleaning products.

Our homes can be well-loved (aka, super messy) and be well-kept! I’m eager to share my love for all things Thieves! In this blog post are several of my favorite Thieves products and our tried and true recipes.

Before using Thieves I had trouble with sensitive skin, especially from laundry detergent. I would often feel tightness in my chest when around cleaners with harmful chemicals and my hands would become dryer than ever while washing the dishes. Since switching over all of our household cleaners to the Thieves Cleaning Line, all of these problems (and several others) disappeared. The Thieves Household Cleaning Line is perfect way to replace harmful chemicals in your home with naturally derived ingredients and products. Young Living offers a complete line of home products, as well as personal care products. And every one of these products is infused with their trademark Thieves Essential Oil.

If you are unfamiliar with Thieves Essential Oil, it is the powerhouse of oils! The science behind this oil is wild, and in short, when you’re using any of the Thieves Household Cleaning products you are boosting your immune system, supporting your digestive system, increasing antioxidants, and more! If you aren’t sold yet, here are 25 ways to use this single oil. Our family has bottles of this oil in every room, bathroom, purse, diaper bag and we even keep some in our car.

The process of switching out our cleaning products didn’t happen overnight, it was a slow process that was best for our home and wallet. We began with the Thieves Household Cleaner because it could replace every cleaner we had stored under our kitchen sink. It’s an all-purpose cleaner that is highly concentrated, meaning a little goes a long way and it works on a variety of surfaces, everything from countertops to hardwood, tub and tile, kids toys and carpet.

A few other Thieves products we quickly swapped were the Thieves Laundry Soap, Thieves Dish Soap, Thieves Hand Soaps, and my newest love, the Thieves Kitchen and Bath Scrub.

If you read the labels you’ll notice the words, “if ingested drink plenty of water to dilute.” No need to call poison control here, these products are safe for curious little hands and paws. Everything about these products settles my mama heart.

After 4+ years of solely using Thieves in our home, I’ve nailed down the perfect recipes that work on the toughest stains, dirtiest messes and gives your laundry the boost it (and you) deserve! Here are our tried and true Thieves recipes.

All-Purpose Cleaner. This recipe can be used on every surface. Be sure to use a glass spray bottle. To make, pour 1-2 capfuls of the THC in a 16oz glass spray bottle + fill the rest with warm water. Spray on any surface and wipe with a clean cloth.

Laundry Boost. Place all of this in the drum of your washer: 1/4 cup baking soda + 1/4 cup epsom salt + 1 capful THC + 5 drops of Young Living’s Essential Oil of your choice, I always choose Lavender and Cypress, and wash with a normal amount of the Thieves Laundry Soap. Pro tip: I batch this recipe, so I put 4 cups of each, the baking soda and epsom salt, mixed together in a large glass jar and store it in my laundry room and keep my favorite essential oils next to the jar. This makes it extra easy to dump 1/2 cup into the washer before loads.

Stain Remover. Replace your current stain remover with the Thieves Dish Soap. Yep, you heard that right! Get stain wet with hot water, add a dab of the Thieves Dish Soap and gently scrub the stain with your hands or with a stain brush before letting it soak. Repeat or simply rinse with hot water before placing item in laundry to be washed like normal.

Whitening Thieves Soak. Make your whites whiter with this simple Thieves soak recipe! In a sink or tub, fill it with hot water, add 2 capfuls of the THC, splash of the Thieves Dish Soap or Laundry Soap, let your whites soak for 2+ hours and wash like normal.

Sink Scrub. This recipe can be used in the kitchen or bathroom. Shake a good amount of the Thieves Kitchen and Bath Scrub into sink or tub, spray sink/tub with THC All-Purpose recipe, add a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil, scrub with brush (I like to use a soft bristled brush in the kitchen and a more durable brush for the tub), spray down with hot water.

Other things to keep in your cleaning cabinet: extra spray bottles, here are some cute spray bottle labels, baking soda, epsom salt (without fragrance), stain brush and dryer balls.

Let me know when you try these recipes, you and your home are going to love them!
