Summers are naturally busy. Longer days + warmer weather are the first ingredients to packed weeknights and weekends and filled schedules. Lately I’ve been craving slower mornings + yet still desiring more adventure on a weekly basis. I’ve been thinking of how to slow down my summer with still getting my fill of people, swimming in the pool, boating on the lake, taking weekend trips, and enjoying a glass of rose on the porch with friends on a random Tuesday night.

This past weekend I was on a retreat for work. I mentor college students through one-on-one and group settings, and this past weekend, I was in the mountains with my coworkers and about 30 students from across the city of Denver.

When I first began practicing the Sabbath, I understood that it was a day to simply rest and become recharged. I didn’t, however, know the reason behind why the Sabbath actually existed. I kind of knew what the Sabbath was, but I couldn’t answer the why behind it.
